Can Peripheral Neuropathy Be Treated with ‘Alternative’ Medicine'?

For sufferers of peripheral neuropathy, finding lasting relief can often feel like an exercise in futility. With no treatment or cure from Western medicine, PN sufferers' only option is to mask the symptoms of the condition with painkillers – at least that's what they've been told. But a growing number of PN sufferers are seeking out alternatives to the same old Western medicine treatments, and most are pleasantly surprised with the results.

Peripheral neuropathy affects people for myriad reasons - and in myriad ways. Because of this, finding a "one-size-fits-all" treatment for the condition is nearly impossible. Thankfully, there are many alternative treatments that can address the symptoms of PN without the worry of dangerous medication interactions or side effects. That's because these treatments are all drug free! That also means they're much safer. Here are some of the most effective (and least invasive!) PN treatments available today.

Stem Cell Therapy

When many people first hear about treating PN with stem cell therapy, they are often confused. Many don't realize that stem cell therapy is already in use to treat a wide array of conditions - and that the stem cells used are their own! Because of this, stem cell therapy is generally well tolerated and has very little occurrence of side effects. Best of all, stem cell therapy actually treats peripheral neuropathy, relieving pain from weeks to months, not hours like medication.

Light Therapy

Light therapy is done with LED lights, which stimulate the body's production of nitric oxide to increase blood flow and lubricate your platelets. It also reduces numbness and pain caused by peripheral neuropathy.

Acupuncture is an ancient technique of traditional Chinese medicine. How ancient? Historians estimate it originated around 100 BC! If it didn't work, it's a safe bet it wouldn't still be around today. Currently, acupuncture is being used to treat everything from osteoarthritis to infertility - and, of course, peripheral neuropathy. In fact, a new study funded by the HanseMerkur Insurance Group and the Innovation Foundation will soon be under way to study the effects of acupuncture in treating peripheral neuropathy

Electronic Therapy

Electronic therapy is another treatment that most patients have never heard of but wish they'd heard of sooner once they try it. It uses low-level electrical currents to promote nerve activity and reduce pain, providing longer-lasting relief than pain medication and repairing the nerve damage at the same time
